From the very beginning, sustainability has been at the heart of what we do at Coco Collection. From construction to operation, our Maldives resorts have been conceived with environmental and social sustainability in mind.
The Maldives faces increasing environmental and social challenges as its popularity grows. We play our part by reducing waste and managing essential waste in an eco-friendly way.
We also hire local talents and, wherever possible, choose environmentally sustainable products and services. Our resident Marine Biologist implements education, conservation, and research programs.
We Grow Our Own
Adored by our chefs, the herb gardens on our islands provide guests with a selection of organic, home-grown herbs, fruits, and vegetables. The harvest is not only fresher than fresh; we reduce the impact of food miles by importing these ingredients to the island.
Coco Dreams Green
As part of Coco Collection’s commitment to protecting and nurturing our environment, we have established Coco Dreams Green, a pledge to increase our sustainability efforts by significantly reducing the amount of single-use plastic on all our properties, including at our corporate office. Our long-term goal is to bring the amount of single-use plastic on our islands to zero.
Sustainable Alternatives
We have implemented policies to find alternatives for single-use plastics.
We host an on-site drinkable water production and glass bottling plant at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu and will be introducing in-house glass bottling at Coco Bodu Hithi in 2019.
Using natural materials
We use paper straws in all outlets instead of biodegradable plastic, as this plastic breaks down into microplastics which is deadly to marine life and detrimental to our own health.
We have also replaced in-villa amenities with those made from natural materials, such as wooden toothbrushes and cotton buds made without plastic.
A Team Effort
For our associates, we have introduced large water dispensers in the Associates’ Village and office areas at the resorts, instead of using plastic water bottles. Our current sustainability and marine conservation awareness and outreach programmes for associate also place a special focus on the issue of plastic pollution.
